Grassroots Genealogy aims to help you understand where you came from, unearth family stories lost to time, contribute to your understanding of the arc of your family’s history, and foster pride in those who came before you. I know that learning about your family history can be life-altering in wonderful ways, and that’s why I love to help others do the same.

I strive to communicate regularly with you as my client and keep you updated throughout your project. We'll start with a research plan, and if it needs to change, we'll talk about it together. I want you to feel as invested in this journey as you want so you come away feeling happy and satisfied with the results!
Sometimes you might need assistance in an area not in my wheelhouse. No problem! I'm happy to connect you with one of my colleagues in the field, and, in certain cases and with your permission, collaborate with them while completing your project. Such partners might include DNA experts, genealogists with specific language specialties, or a family historian in a specific location who can readily access needed documents.

I'm a lifelong historian whose career was punctuated by a number of years working in psych rehab, then seven more taking care of my special needs child. As years raced by, I started to think about what would fill my upcoming years with daily joy and purpose. I had been doing genealogical research for more than ten years already as a side gig, so I decided to go back to school and become a professional family historian. I'm so happy I took the leap! Life is too short not to do what you love most!

Early in my career, I worked in public history, developing historical tours, doing research for organizations, and composing exhibit content for museums. Later, working in psych rehab was both rewarding and exhausting. Also, when my son was diagnosed with autism at age 2.5, it was clear that his progress would be benefit from my direct management of his services, so I stayed home with him for seven years (which is when I began doing genealogy!). It was well worth it, as my son is now a thriving student and adolescent . The lesson? Life is like a box of chocolates. Ya never know what you're gonna get! As for me, I got two wonderful sons.

I specialize in American, Germanic, Scandinavian, British, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. I do genealogical research on American families from colonial times onward, and my international work goes back to the 16th century. I also assist in interpreting DNA results and maximizing their value to pursue research goals.
